Check, Service and Clean Furnace
Check list
1. Clean interior & exterior of furnace. - Provides safety.
2. Clean burners. - Dirty burners prevent gas from being burned properly & efficiently.
3. Clean pilot assembly. - Adjust flame. Extends life of thermocouple, saves money.
4. Check thermocouple or flame sensor. - Prevent emergency service call.
5. Set gas manifold pressure. - Provides safety, extends life of heat exchanger, fuel economy & system effectiveness.
6. Check safety devices. - Inoperative safety controls can cause dangerous problems.
7. Inspect heat exchanger for cracks and leaks. - Safety check for possibility of leak of carbon monoxide into
the house & flame rollout.
8. Clean heat exchanger. - Provides better heat transfer - system effectiveness & fuel economy.
9. Check blower motor and lube. - Extends life, saves money, prevents failure.
10. Clean blower motor/blower wheel. - Lengthens motor life, system effectiveness in air movement.
11. Check fan control. - Avoids wasting heat and improves comfort conditions.
12. Inspect electrical wiring. - Damaged wiring can cause short and damage to electronic controls.
13. Check limit control. - Keeps unit in safe operating condition.
14. Check and secure all panels. - Newer systems have a door safety switch and will not work if not secure properly.
15. Install new air filter. - Dirty air filter increase operating costs and overheats heat exchanger decreasing its life.
16. Test for gas leaks. - Safety check.
17. Test for carbon monoxide. - Safety check.
18.Check thermostat contacts. - Saves money increases comfort.
19.Check for vibration and noise levels. - Increases comfort and extends life of system.
20.Check for combustion air. - Blocked or restricted combustion air openings can be dangerous .
21.Inspect flue and diverter. - Ensures safe operation. Flue pipe corrosion or leaks are dangerous.
22.Check temperature difference of supply & return air. - Temperature difference indicates production and capacity
of unit and comfort level.
23.Check for proper clearances. - Safety and performance of furnace.
24.Make proper recommendations. - Opportunity to learn a few things about your furnace.
