When should I clean my air ducts?

If you never had them cleaned. If you moved to a new house especially brand new house. You would be surprised what you can find in your duct system- from bottles to cups, from papers to lunch bags and drywall dust and on and on. How often you should clean your ducts is up to you there are many different views on how often.

Who Should Clean My Air Ducts?

If you are like me, you read your favorite newspaper or magazine a few times per week and go thru your mail looking at coupons.  It seems that every carpet cleaner is in the duct cleaning business and has a sale going on.  I’ve seen it as cheap as $70 for the entire house and $150 for unlimited vent openings, etc.  I ask myself how they can make any money doing this, or should I say how they can do a good job for that price?

If you do some simple math; 2 servicemen at $17 per hour, each take approximately 4 hours to clean your ductwork properly, labor cost $136 minimum, the cost of the truck, the duct cleaning machine, advertising and the other cost of doing business and your cost as a company to do a proper duct cleaning and I stress the company’s cost without making any profit is approximately $350.

So how can these companies charge $79 and make any money doing it? The answer is simple; they can’t. What will happen is that they come to your home and try to up sell you.  What is up sell?  It’s when they tell you that you need sanitizer, deep cleaning, etc., etc.  Be sure to take the time to educate yourself on duct cleaning.  If you check the EPA site under duct cleaning, you will see that they state a proper duct cleaning will cost between $400 and $800 and take 4 to 6 hours to do.

NADCA is the only duct cleaning authority that certifies duct cleaning techs on how to properly clean duct system. Be sure to watch and ask questions when your ducts are being cleaned.  We also recommend that you go to YouTube and watch the video on duct cleaning scams.  It will help prevent you from being ripped off. We hope this will help you in choosing air duct cleaning company.

Who should clean my hvac equipment?

Let the professionals do what they do the best . That is the only way your comfort and safety will be protected.

Would I want a licensed HVAC company to clean my furnace or would I trust a carpet cleaning or air duct cleaning company to clean and service my furnace or/and air conditioner? Would it be worth possibly risking my life and/or my home to save a little money to pay an under trained carpet cleaning company or a company that is not an HVAC licensed contractor to take care of this problem, or should I pay a little more for a NATE certified professional , an HVAC licensed heating and air conditioning contractor to service and clean my hvac equipment?
